Jeff Morin does not fit the stereotype of a CEO: He doesn’t wear a suit to work. He does not have a business degree. His staff knows he cares about job satisfaction. His hair should not turn gray for many years. While Jeff is not a typical CEO, his growing multi-million dollar a year company is evidence that not all paths need to be traditional to prove successful.

Jeff enlisted in the US Marine Corps at age 17, and was shipped off to boot camp months before his eighteenth birthday. Soon after, he fought for our country in Operation Enduring Freedom, and he took every opportunity during this time to learn what the military can teach – hard work, perseverance and structure. Just after his first two years of service and while still serving with the 2nd Marine Division at Camp Lejeune, he was ready to apply those values to a business idea of reselling challenge coins online.

His idea was quickly accepted amongst his target market, and the potential for growth was clear. He borrowed $500 from his mother for more supplies, and Coins For Anything was born. Jeff kept his head down and worked hard to grow the business – investing every penny made back into it. He often declined social invitations to instead research business strategies.

By 2005, it was clear that Jeff’s dedication to educating himself and his implementation of unique marketing strategies was paying off. He had expanded into additional product lines and was running a series of very profitable e-commerce businesses for awards, pins and lanyards. He was ready to again broaden his offering with more products, and did so adding signs and shirts.

Over the next few years, Jeff grew Coins For Anything into one of the largest private mints in the US, as well as won positions on the Inc. 5000 list four times. He moved most of the For Anything team into 10,000 square feet of office space in Spotsylvania, Va., while also operating additional offices in Fredericksburg, Va., Phoenix and Boise.

In 2011, Jeff began serving on the board of a charity he believes in strongly – the Families of the Wounded Fund – while continuing to provide the incredible amount of attention a growing business demands. The following year, he was selected to participate as a mentor in an Inc. 5000 entrepreneurial event for former members of the military. Also in 2012, websites as well as promotional items began carrying the For Anything name, and the online awards store received honor as ARA’s International Best Website.

Jeff’s entrepreneurial spirit is infectious. He often is asked to speak about how he grew Coins For Anything into a successful company and expanded into multiple product lines. His presentations include his belief on viewing ideas from the end user perspective and his understanding that a happy staff helps build a company faster than any form of funding.
